A Visual Study of Popular Logos
A logo is a word, image, or colour combination used to represent a company or item. There are many distinct forms and dimensions for all kinds of logos, ranging from straightforward text logotypes to abstract logo markings.
The process of giving a business or brand a distinctive personality is known as branding. Creating the company's mission, values, and personality is part of this. Developing a visual identity for the brand include designing its logo, typography, colours, and general look.
A logo is just one element of branding, although being a crucial component. A more comprehensive idea, branding takes into account all the distinctive qualities that set a business apart.
A study of five popular logos:
NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION (NBA)
This classic sports logo is a basic silhouette created from an actual photo of Lakers player Jerry West. The NBA logo is unique and effectively captures in a single image the essence of the game. Originally intended to arouse feelings of patriotism, the design used a tricolour palette of red, white, and blue. As you can see, this logo is a great example of the significance of having a distinct image that conveys the essence of the company or brand immediately.
I chose this logo for study because, the association tries to connect with fans of diverse backgrounds, through the logo.
TARGET
Target's brilliant logo makes it easy to recognise the beloved one-stop store for groceries, apparel, cosmetics, toys, and more. It illustrates their corporate name as well as their principles. The bullseye represents their primary goals of "hitting the mark" and providing outstanding value. The company frequently utilises its logo without even needing to say their name or any other words because it is so instantly recognisable.
I chose this logo for study because, it is a very simple yet meaningful logo and can be easily recognized thus checking out all the conditions for a logo.
SPOTIFY
One example of an abstract design that effectively captures the essence of the brand is the Spotify logo. The logo for the music streaming service is a straightforward green circle with three horizontal lines inside of it. These lines are intentionally crooked to add personality and give the brand a more "human" vibe. They are supposed to represent sound waves. The narrative behind the abstract image preserves the brand's identity and core principles while making conceptual and visual sense.
I chose this logo for study because, it represents different music choices and personalities through it's logo.
BARBIE
This catchy pink logo personifies the iconic doll through colour and typography. Since making her debut in 1959, Barbie's image and branding have changed, but her fundamental character has not. Barbie's emblem is always classy and playful and speaks to her intended audience in an effective and eye-catching manner.
I chose this logo for study because, it is one of those logos that easily catch your attention and has a huge brand value to it.
BMW
The goal of the strategic marketing, that gave rise to the BMW slogan in the 1970s was to redefine the brand's perception in order to establish a promise and an idea of what BMW vehicles stood for. The effort was so successful that BMW's slogan, "The Ultimate Driving Machine," has come to be associated with the brand.
I chose this logo for study because, it is a very well known logo. It embraces change and talks about an enduring legacy.
